James Bartelme
James (Jim) Bartelme is a born and raised Milwaukee area native. He has spent his life working and enjoying what Southeastern Wisconsin has to offer.
Jim has proudly worked in the home construction business since he can almost remember – starting out as a Carpentry Apprentice in the 1970’s and earning his Journeyman Carpentry License in 1977.
Since then it has been all family and all business and a good combination it has been. Jim, along with his wife Marie, established their own business of building passive solar homes and additions in 1978 under the name of Bartelme Solar Builders. Over the years the business, known as Bartelme Builders, Inc has evolved as a successful and ever changing business – changing with the times and needs of its customers.
Throughout Jim’s career in construction and remodeling he has great opportunity to help people enjoy their homes to the fullest. From large additions to small bath remodeling and everything in between, he can help people plan for the future. This is when Stay-At-Home Specialists, Inc went from and idea to a brand new business – focusing on helping people be able to live in their homes for as long as they can.
Jim has other real world experience for Stay-At-Home Specialists, Inc as his mother has lived on his property since 1991 and recently his mother-in-law has moved in as well. Adapting his home to meet their ever changing needs has been the perfect outline for his new business venture.
James resides in Oconomowoc, with Marie and has four great kids, Cassy, Nichole, Jaime and Max.
Douglas L. Pettit
Doug Pettit is no stranger to Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin. Born in 1953, at Columbia Hospital, he has lived and worked in the area for more than 30 years.
A 1976 Drake University Graduate, with a Bachelor of Arts, School of Journalism, Doug is applying his major in Public Relations to Stay-At-Home Specialists, Inc. Along with Co-Owner, Jim Bartelme, they recently completed courses provided by the National Association of Home Builders and are now "Certified Aging In Place", The certification is evidence of a continued commitment to excellence and professionalism in the building industry.
Professionally, Doug, for over 20 years was involved in Professional Hockey with fifteen of those years here locally with the Milwaukee Admirals as their radio play-by-play personality. The job also provided the opportunity to handle sales, public speaking and marketing. He also spent hours as a volunteer for Seasons Hospice which proved to be emotionally rewarding by helping those people who are in their final stages of life.
Doug and his wife are parents of two daughters. The Pettit family comes complete with a Golden Doodle, Mojo.
Doug looks forward to meeting with those individuals and families who through aging or other circumstances find living in the home they love become a challenge. "The joy I get out of Stay-At-Home Specialists is a smile and thank you from those home owners who through minor changes can continue to live safer, more comfortable in their homes longer than ever before", said Pettit.
